Antony Hodari Solicitors has acted for individuals since 1984. Today, we are a specialist housing disrepair and social housing conditions practice, acting exclusively for tenants to hold landlords to account and secure essential repairs and compensation.
We are a firm of solicitors regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, specialising in housing disrepair claims for tenants of councils, housing associations and other social landlords across England. We are not a claims management company. Cases are supervised by qualified solicitors with housing experience.
Our history
Founded in Manchester in 1984, Antony Hodari Solicitors has more than 40 years of experience acting for individuals. The practice has developed from a local high street firm into a national claimant law firm and now specialises in housing disrepair claims and proceedings under section 82 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
1984: Antony Hodari Solicitors is founded in Manchester
Antony Hodari founded the practice in 1984 in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. The firm initially opened on Lever Street before moving shortly afterwards to Oldham Street, where it established and grew its local practice.
The late 1980s and 1990s: Growth in claimant litigation
Antony Hodari Solicitors initially focused principally on conveyancing. Over time, the practice expanded into claimant litigation, including personal injury and housing disrepair work. Continued growth during the 1990s led the firm to move to larger premises in the former British Rail building on High Street in Manchester city centre.
2000 to 2013: Building a national personal injury practice
Around 2000, Antony Hodari Solicitors stopped undertaking conveyancing work. From 2004, the firm concentrated on personal injury claims and developed a substantial national claimant practice. Paul Rooney Solicitors was acquired in 2012. In 2013, the original sole trader practice, Antony Hodari & Company, was incorporated as a limited company.
2013 to 2017: Responding to LASPO and broadening legal services
Following the introduction of the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 reforms in 2013, commonly known as LASPO, Antony Hodari Solicitors stopped accepting new personal injury work and began running down its existing personal injury caseload. The firm diversified into other areas of claimant litigation, including financial mis-selling, care home fee claims, professional negligence, clinical negligence and substantial group litigation.
In 2016, Antony Hodari Solicitors moved to its present Manchester office on Fountain Street, remaining in the heart of Manchester city centre.
2018 to the present: Specialist housing disrepair solicitors
In 2018, Antony Hodari Solicitors returned to housing disrepair litigation, an area of law in which the practice had acted since its earlier years. Today, the firm acts exclusively for tenants. It brings civil housing disrepair claims against landlords who fail to comply with their repairing obligations, and private prosecutions under section 82 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 where housing conditions amount to a statutory nuisance.
From offices in Manchester and Liverpool, Antony Hodari Solicitors represents tenants nationally and has developed specialist teams dedicated to housing disrepair litigation and environmental protection proceedings.

Our practice
We act on every category of housing disrepair claim under section 11 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 and sections 9A–9B of the Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 2018. Awaab’s Law, the Environmental Protection Act, and the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Conditions Claims are all areas of regular practice.
Our work covers damp and mould, leaks and water damage, heating and hot water failures, vermin and infestation, structural defects, and statutory nuisance claims under section 82 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. We act for tenants across England.
